Well there could be a lot of theoretical reasons for it, but the one that springs to mind most easily is just keeping faith in American democracy. That was the motivation for the whole hoolabaloo raised about My Lai and Lieutenant Calley back in the earlier war. Although the overall US assault on Indochina involved My Lai on an expanded scale, the formal scandal centered on a relatively small incident. But everyone got the chance to feel proud of American liberty once more. Most likely that's what this will be used to spin. It's not at all obvious that anything more is involved, although that may still be nonetheless.

and is it any coincidence he was also involved in Abu Ghraib and 9/11 cases? why does Alvin always seem to be involved in bringing out stuff that makes Americans look evil in the eyes of arabs and muslims? is it because as a Zionist he feels arabs and muslims deserve to know these things, or as a Zionist is he trying to antagonize arabs and muslims in order to keep the animosity raging? I know the answer, btw, the question is rhetorical. This guy is neck deep along with Silverstein.

Probably not. It's an old trick to build up a special crusader who gains the reputation as the rough and tough dog who's always jumping on the "hardest" cases. Meanwhile the rest of the world goes as normal.

For anyone living in the Mideast, Americans looked bad long before Hellerstein showed. There certainly is no reason to doubt the basic claims about Osama declaring war on the USA after the first Iraq war of 1990-1. If Hellerstein is serving a PR agenda it's one aimed at citizens of the USA, not at Arabs or Muslims.
