Water Torture

Water Torture
The Bravest of The Most Brave, President George Bush, is getting ready to legalize Water Torture.
He's being assisted in this by US Congress, who collectively can't
figure out how to find any decent people among themselves to overturn
his legislation.
Worse than that, he is being assisted by the Corporate Media, who
invented a new word for this kind of torture in order to obscure and
camouflage its nature. Everyone knows what Torture is, and everyone
knows it's illegal. But this "new thing" called "waterboarding?"
...well, a lot of Americans can safely say they never heard of it, and
who knows, if the President is authorizing it and the Government's
doing it "to deal with September 11 and the terrorists" then it must be
OK. Right?

Bush to veto CIA waterboarding ban bill
Fri Mar 7, 2008
President George W. Bush will veto legislation on Saturday banning U.S.
intelligence agents from using waterboarding and other controversial
interrogation methods, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said on Friday.
Last month, Congress sent Bush a broad intelligence authorization bill
that contained new limits on CIA interrogation techniques, despite Bush
administration warnings that such a measure would be rejected.
"The president will veto the intelligence authorization bill tomorrow," Fratto told reporters.
The legislation was approved by the Senate and House of Representatives
on partisan votes that did not indicate there was enough support in
Congress to overturn Bush's veto.
Waterboarding, in which suspects are subjected to simulated drowning,
has been widely criticized by many members of Congress, human rights
organizations and other countries.
The technique was used on three suspects captured after the September
11 attacks, CIA Director Michael Hayden informed Congress last month.
In writing the legislation, supporters said it would put CIA
interrogation techniques in line with the U.S. Army Field Manual, which
prohibits waterboarding and other controversial methods.
The Bush administration has countered that the CIA should not be held
to the U.S. military's interrogation standards because intelligence
agents are dealing with terrorists who are not lawful combatants
operating under traditional battlefield tactics.
"President Bush's veto will be one of the most shameful acts of his
presidency," charged Sen. Edward Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat who
supported the legislation outlawing waterboarding.
Quoting the Army Field Manual, Kennedy said, "'Use of torture is not
only illegal but also it is a poor technique that yields unreliable
results, may damage subsequent collection efforts, and can induce the
source to say what he thinks the wants to hear."'

Many people around the world are organizing to protest US atrocities and its dirty wars:

Also, communities are organizing with legal initiatives in an effort to reverse the Empire's legal degeneracy.

Those who wish to the Imperium simply return to "normalcy" are never
going to get their wishes fulfilled. But the question is: as it all
collapses into a cesspool of unheard of and unspeakable evil, will it
collapse into Freedom and Socialism, or into barbarism?
The outcome will be determined by whether we'll shoulder our
responsibilities as organizers active both within and also outside of
the radical and alternative communities and help build a popular force
that will be irrepressible. The Iraqi Resistance is doing it - abandoned
by the "Peace Movement" of the US, the people of Iraq are
re-discovering on every new day that the only way to protect their
families is to kill and oust the invaders. The rest of the world is
more or less on the same path of awareness.
But Resistance is not enough, even though it is vital; we need
Organization and Consciousness to be guiding our community efforts -
otherwise, we will only replace the current face of the Empire with a
new one.
