Anarchism in America. Hey, Danse!!!

went to a very interesting film night, private home, ballroom dancers, wbai dj, old hippies, trotskyists, marxists, anarchists... contemporary secular humanists and followers of the Dawkins and Hitchins...
so wonderful to see and hear Emma Goldman and friends speaking on archival footage!!!
blessings to all. (obviously not a secular humanist) Â kÂ

Hi Kate
I wasn't aware there was any video footage of Emma Goldman speaking. I recall a deplorable hit piece on her courtesy of PBS but I couldn't stomach the whole thing so turned it off.
I loathe Trotskyists, just for the record, though it's my opinion that many of them are simply misguided rather than malicious (young neo-cons not included;) Were they aware of quotes like the following:
"“The working class cannot be left wandering all over Russia. They must be thrown here and there, appointed, commanded, just like soldiers.
Leon Trotsky
...they might not be so keen to label themsevles as such. Emma was originally enthusastic about the Bolshie revolution but soured quickly, as did most anarchists, particularly in Russia.
In his youth Orwell referred to himself as a "Trotskyist anarchist" but grew wiser with age. I see few points of contact considering events like Kronstaadt, as well as the betrayal of the Spanish anarchists by Stalinist thugs during the Spanish revolution.
There's an essay called "How Lenin led to Stalin" which I consider essential reading for would-be commies.
thanks for the reply, Danse

would appreciate any thoughts and reactions.
regarding Emma and others, yes i have read "Living My Life" which i found to be riveting. Her disillusionment with the movement in Russia very apparent.
i'm no would-be commie. fiercely independent these days, especially since 9/11.
anyway some interesting interviews and prescient content.Â
interview with Jello Biafra included! Ha.
best, kÂ
thanks kate. I'll give it
