new 9/11 truth song - thanks for the inspiration kate!

this is a very rough first take of a song that came to me tonight, inspired by billy bragg's lonesome death of rachel corrie and bob dylan's lonsesome death of hattie carroll (sp?) in any case it is the lonesome death of orio palmer

kate of the kiosk's picture

Bravo! Bravissimo!

is that you, young Gretavo? such pure emotion of voice and warm tones from your guitar! it's a keeper....such a gift!

Annoymouse's picture

song

yea, great stuff, gretavo! recorded on a 4 track?
we should collaborate on 911 truth songs!

gretavo's picture

thanks mouse!

actually a mic running through my old four track and into the computer. i purposely set the sampling rate and bit rate low for the encoding because as a rough take i wasn't too happy with the vocals... :) I'm getting over a cold (actually i guess that helps for emulating Dylan) and it was late so I couldn't sing loudly enough... would absolutely love to collaborate on 9/11 themed music with anyone and everyone. anything I put up is fair game for stealing, remixing, re-recording, sampling, splicing, dicing, etc...

bruce1337's picture

I didn't even know you made music

I do, too -- amateurishly and electronically, to be sure, but still!

gretavo's picture

i dabble :)

don't have the discipline or attention span to do much else. :) i't was nice to dip the toes in those waters again. i was reading the fifth anniversary edition of Life magazine's ONE NATION - total BS of course but at the same time it wasn't hard to apply all the expressions of grief, etc. to the reality as we know it, and I dunno--I guess that combined with kate's post must have clicked something in my head....

Annoymouse's picture

collab

"would absolutely love to collaborate on 9/11 themed music with anyone and everyone."

Wow, so would i!! Lets do it!!
I dont sing or write texts, but i'd love to provide a backing 'band' and remix it...
The needed toys and tools and software sure are around here...:) So is the motivation and skills.
I actually really like the singing btw!
Lets discuss the plan! on email maybe?

eM7

bruce1337's picture

Seconded -- it's pretty good singing!

Gret, have you ever been in training, other than under the shower?

Personally, I would love to be able to contribute anything to a 9/11 truth collab -- but then, I mostly do ambient electronica or d'n'b kind of stuff, which probably wouldn't fit in...

Annoymouse's picture

everything fits into a "collab"!

and thanks guys, for the compliment. the truth is i sing much better than I can play any instrument, even tho i maintain that this is not the best sample of my "talent"... i'll need to pop some antihistamines and wait until the landlady's out to really rock out for you guys... :-P

seriously though, lets figure out a way to collaborate, and maybe even send out a call to others interested maybe in putting together a project or collection of 9/11 truth tunes! i've been occasionally nagging my roommate who is actually a much better songwriter than I will ever be to do something 9/11 related. he's not a full on truther but he definitely agrees with the basics. and hey, isn't jon gold a drummer? ;)

Annoymouse's picture

music

i guess you recorded this onto 1 track (except for that part with the doubled vocals (which sounds really cool btw)), right?
would you feel comfortable to record guitar first, then voice after , onto 2 separate tracks on the 4 track...? cause then u could record the stereo-mix output from the 4 track (on the computer) with vocals panned full to the left channel, and guitar full right (or vice versa), so us remixers could still easily separate them from a simple stereo wave (or mp3) file...

or... u could just record it all on the computer. there is loads of free software out there that can multitrack-record.. tho u might not so easily be able to connect your mic to your soundcard, with what you have at hand... anyway, if you need help/infos about the software bit, let me know..

and yea, a call out to others interested sounds good too..
i really think we should make some music happen, on purpose!
em7

gretavo's picture

MMHOP theories

making music happen on purpose? brilliant! let's do it. last night I literally wrote and recorded that in about an hour so it was a hack job par excellence. i actually use cakewalk for recording so can definitely do everything right by remixers when i go back to do it right this weekend... :) looking forward to the collaborating--though I worry people will label us collaborators--you know how the kooky konspiracy krowd is!!

oh, btw em7, RT and I share our email (and underwear, totohbrush, vital organs, etc.) so you can write him at

rt atchoo! wtcdemolition HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! com

and i'll be sure to get it...

gretavo's picture

some typos are such a shame to correct...

toto is a vulgar spanish word for female genitalia. i'm mortified--good thing no one back home on the island cares enough to read regularly!

bruce1337's picture

Well...we do care about reading

but most of us probably couldn't have identified the mortifying aspect of this particular typo without your assistance. Then again...so what? Cunt! I'm european, this wouldn't even mortify me if it was said at a pompous dinner. In fact, were I and, for example, Miss Merkel to attend just such a dinner, I'd probably delight in saying it. LOUD! And repeatedly. I'd cover my ass by faking Tourette, ha!

gretavo's picture

the best thing to do at a pompous dinner

is not to curse, but to pass gas in as trumpety a manner as possible, with, of course, an accompanying raising of one cheek off the chair. ideally after someone says something very profound, as punctuation...

bruce1337's picture

That conjured up images of "Jarhead"

you know, where he's supposed to play the trumpet for the roll call, doesn't have one, and improvises. Though with the other end...

gretavo's picture

speaking of, i gotta run

meeting a comrade in arms for a drink... see yall tonight...

casseia's picture

Wasn't that a song by those teenie-bopper guys?

Mmmmm-hop?

(Sorry -- that will be the extent of my collaboration until I finish evacuating my liquified frontal lobes via my sinus cavities. Unless a Marianne Faithful-sounding rasping... never mind.)

gretavo's picture

speaking of snotty little blonde kids

Hanson!

is EVERYONE currently congested? your nose does look awful red-like...

Annoymouse's picture

MMHOP

excellent about you using cakewalk!
means we can share perfectly aligned audio tracks.
just one prob. with the 'on purpose': unlike 911 theories, when it comes to music, i actually like to LET things happen, instead of making it too much on purpose. Im not sure youre ok with that LIH influence ;)
(lee scratch perry explained that bit well with his 'extraterestrials are playing those other tracks' theory, but im getting off topic here:) )
ill send u an email soon..

em7

gretavo's picture

dont misunderestimate me

i'm only mihop on 9/11 (zihop actually) because its what makes sense for 9/11. in reality i am much more the lihopper. i'm all about letting things happen around me--control=responsibility=work and in the end i am an islander, an epicurean, a hedonist, and a lazy mothafucka whose socialistic leanings stem in part from the confidence that if we all pitched in no one would have to work more than like 5 hours a week and we'd still get everything (worth doing) done. and be living much happier lives riding around in clean eco-trains an all that, when we're not putting on shows for each other or cooking or dancing or doing the na--er, makin love... ;)

bruce1337's picture

I think the proper term is

"doing the horizontal hula"

:D

gretavo's picture

this could get real ugly real fast

thank god larry horse isn't online--i suspect he knows a bunch of those euphemisms... even more than cass!

bruce1337's picture

What a tragedy larry horse isn't online!

I'll wait...

Keenan's picture

Hey, you don't look old enough for that

horizontal hula stuff :O

Wow, this place is shaping up to be quite the brand name! Tee shirts, coffee mugs, tha nascent beginnings of the wtcdemo theme song...Pretty soon Gretavo you need to start thinking about product lines and marketing alliances }:)

Seriously, though, there's seriously some serious talent here, thanks for sharing. I second the notion that ya'all should collaborate on MMHOP, or even LMHOP would be acceptable to me in this case :P. For me, I sometimes pretend to play the guitar, though not much at all in recent years. Looking forward to when I actually have time again to advance in that department.

I'm just screwing around right now...huddled next to the wood stove here waiting for this massive storm to pass. We're getting smacked hard here on the west coast with the largest storm system I can remember. In 12 hours we've registered about 7 inches of rain here in the Santa Cruz mountains and hurricane force gusts of up to 90 mph! Widespread power outages...I forgot to charge up my solar batteries, so I'm in the dark too. What's more I think my powerbook battery is just about ready run out...

bruce1337's picture

Guess mr-not-looking-old-enough's away for drinks now

But I guess, too, that by now, your battery has run out -- and by the time you read this, you're either still alive or its already too late for moral support. Hm, that sounds cynic, doesn't it?

gretavo's picture

Lihopapotamus

can't control this movement baby... it's bizness time!

thanks to cass for FINALLY catching on to the conchords, who no doubt also had something to do with my musical juices thawing out recently.

so yeah, the future's not looking too bright for the paleotruthers and their fake movement is it! man, losing control of a global mass consciousness awakening has to suck!

anyway, does anyone else feel like a tool after realizing that they don't have solar batteries to charge like Keenan? if it weren't for the freakin sand shortage maybe *I* could afford solar power. unfortunately it seems there is just no way for the government or private enterprise to triple the number of sand (silicon) processing plants thereby making solar power dirt (sand) cheap. and what with Peak Oil coming down the pipeline in only 50 years, we just don't have enough time either to increase sand processing capacity around the world. Anyone ever get the feeling that we are being played for chumps? :)

shortage of processed silicon+abundant sand=supply/demand dream profit opportunity for people to invest in silicon processing. so why don't it happen? can some economic guru please explain? where's Ben Stein? Alan Greenspan? Martin Feldstein? Milton Friedman? Help us lowly idiots figure out why the free market is so far from free!

bruce1337's picture

Hey now...

the exceptionally benevolent governments of the western world are working tirelessly to end the severe sand shortage. And you thought Iraq was about oil...

Jpass's picture

who like's mixing

I can record half decent tracks but mixing seems a pain. Here is a project I'm working on tonight with my roomate.

Cherry Wine

No, it's not me blowing the harp. My roommate is on the harp and first verse vocals. I'm on bass, guitar, second verse.

Anyone use Audacity?

bruce1337's picture

Well, I've spent some time digging through my stuff

but the thing is: almost none of it was originally conceived as accompanying vocals. Plus, the other thing is: How to best share some with you -- putfile?

gretavo's picture

sharing files

i know the drupal has some tinker toys for such things--i can try to mess around--aren't you empowered to tinker with the drupal? anyway it need not conform to anything--you throw out what you have and we'll go at it like a band of vultures to a week-old wildebeast carcass in the noon sun! i.e. i'm sure we'll find really tasty bits here and there (at the very least!)

bruce1337's picture

Tinker with the Drupal?

I have more features than the standard user, but still found no way to upload something here.

Annoymouse's picture

mp3 sharing

for mp3s, this site works pretty well:
http://www.lightningmp3.com/
allows direct links to the tracks too. only mp3 files tho

em7

gretavo's picture

i mean really tinker, man!

you should now find your powers increased dramatically--go crazy! it was my wish all along that people would get into actually getting their hands dirty with me under the hood...

bruce1337's picture

Taking a look under the hood right now...

wish me -- and you -- luck ;)

gretavo's picture

let me know if you need any tools...

wrench, scalpel, flowbee, clapper, you name it, i've got it.

kate of the kiosk's picture

i like to sing, too!!! sez katie kioski with glee.

maybe some bluesy-folksy harmonies.

but  would have to figure out how to collaborate...i know artists who send tracks back and forth, adding as they go, but have never done personally. would need some steps.

me partner just acquired a ZoomH4/live recorder or 4-track thingee...i duhno..

am performing tonight, as a matter of fact...la-la-laa-ba-la...

gretav has my email.

gretavo's picture

awesome... i love to harmonize!

once bruce figures out how to enable audio file sharing on the drupal we can start!

gretavo's picture

thanks kate

you're toooo kind! i'm going to re-record it under better circumstances and probably fiddle with the words a bit but anyway i'm glad ya liked. if anyone has ideas for additional lyrics please share! i found it pretty easy to write, which is rarely the case for me, and I'll be the first to assert my very amateur status in all musical pursuits. If it encourages anyone else who is musically inclined to start making some 9/11 themed music that would be super keen! let's take this to the next level (and beyond!)

Lazlo Toth's picture

This is zeitgeist-collective unconscious weirdness

Several weeks ago I read some posting by Gretavo and felt inspired to take some of his feelings and phrasings, and to try to put the ideas in some type of lyrical format. Here is the result of my impromptu experiment. Laugh me out of the room. I don’t fucking care. And this is for the ladies in the house... Dim the lights and please tip your waiter or waitress generously, thank you.

Basic Rhythm and Style:
Rage Against the Machine/Beck/Nirvana

Been a Tough Year for Me

I’m so tired
of having to vent
Online with
Unsuspecting, hired rodentia

And I’m so tired
Of people in-the-know
Lying through their teeth
About 9/11..
And all the rest of it

CHORUS:
Yeah, it’s been a tough year for me, too
I can’t strum my guitar
while looking out my window
as they roll the concertina wire out in my
Occupied neighborhood!

And I’m so tired
of fucking fake truthers
who still think the Arabs did it
Over six years later
still debatin’ demolition
and still wonderin’ why the Media
won’t talk about 9/11

CHORUS:
Yeah, it’s been a tough year for me, too
I can’t strum my guitar
while looking out my window
as they roll the concertina wire out in my
Occupied neighborhood!

(And that’s all I have so far. Put it in the rough edit, first-draft bin. TURN THE AMPS UP TO 10. Free pizza and beer after the gig for the whole band, and thanks for coming.)

bruce1337's picture

I like it.

It's still a very polite form of anger. Sometimes, I feel way more like that primal scream at the beginning of "sleep now in the fire" -- it really sums it all up nicely.

But it can't rain forever. What's now only provides the necessary contrast to fully appreciate what will be.

bruce1337's picture

ear & eye candy

props to gret, too -- but the jury's been rigged by that cute smile there.

gretavo's picture

dude...

r u hitting on my six-year-old-self avatar? even allowing for the licentious german sexual mores there is SO much wrong with that! Laughing

what will the newbies think?!

bruce1337's picture

What would Freud say?

I really don't know. But I say: you wish!

(and boy, I hope you don't ;) )

Oh, and regarding licentious german sexual mores: There've been (as of yet unsuccesful) parliamentary efforts to prohibit ANYTHING that entails or, by any stretch of the imagination depicts sexuality involving at least one person under 18 years. Which, conceivably, would mean that a father carrying a somewhat nude picture of his little daughter in his wallet could thus be incriminated. Our parliament is no better than yours, and so is the rest of the political puppets. Fortunately, their time is running out.

kate of the kiosk's picture

have no idea who she is....

she ain't Eva Cassidy, but she's beautiful, and has incredible soul...

gretavo's picture

it's always great to see

people just do something because they feel it, which she clearly does--i think professionals can be great but really we should be as a rule much more immersed in each others' creative work, baring our souls to each other, etc. time to reconnect the human family, ya know?

casseia's picture

Flight of the Conchords

Am I, like, the last person in the world to hear about these guys? I don't want to seem like a dork, but my brother and his fiancee gave me a bootleg of the HBO series for Xmas and I cannot contain my enthusiasm. I've been really sick, stoned on various over-the-counter cold and cough remedies all week, and I could watch this again and again, chortling up phlegm all the while. Lily thinks they're hysterical, too -- so imagine my chagrin when I looked for this on YouTube and found that it was considered inappropriate for minors. I'm a Bad Mom.

gretavo's picture

i'm well into the second dvd myself

they're great--so refreshing. and i'm assuming being kiwis they aren't WGA, which means that all those geniuses who give us crap like Buffy and Raymond and the Daily Show may as well go in for some retraining program. who needs em! have you watched the actor episode? omfg its omfhilarious

Great Songs!

911 Truth music. I love it.

This music collaboration site is pretty cool...

http://www.kompoz.com/

You can post projects and have people sit in and do bass lines, drums, picalo, or triangle!

I can record bass, acoustic / electric guitar lead/rhythm, vocals, harmonica for some 911Truth Jams.

Here is a quick recording I did last night after I heard these excellent songs...

I call it:

Cover It Up the 'trying not to wake up my lady while recording this' remix.

It's rough, real rough. You can tell when I do the double take on the last verse.

Anyway, I'd be down for some 911 Truth music collaboration.

gretavo's picture

i knew someone would show me up!

great vocals jpass... i'll have to relisten to catch *all* the words but sounds good so far! this is shaping up to be a great and FUN year for the truth, eh?

Jpass's picture

music with purpose

What a concept!

It was bound to happen. We've all been honing our skillz for the last 10 years or more and what a noble purpose to be applying them to!

Real 9/11 Truth only gets bigger from here folks. I really can't imagine things going BACKWARDS.

Jpass's picture

here gretavo...

Lyrics are hard to make out. Here they are....

-----
No one cried when our sailors died
Proud men serving on the liberty
A US Flag was flyin high
They were floatin without motion
In the Straight of Sinai

Oh yea...oh yea...

Our friends circled us early that mornin'
Old Jim Ennis saw the white of their teeth
No one knew what was about to go down
They started droppin bombs on our brave men....

WE ALL THOUGHT ISRAEL WAS OUR FRIEND!!

(Chorus)
Cover it up with your biggest blanket
You couldn't sink her so now we can see
Cover it up with your biggest blanket
You couldn't sink our Liberty

(v2)
They started with rockets and machine gun fire
oh the 2nd round they let the napalm down
That wasn't enough to sink our Liberty
So They brought torpedo boats to give it a go

oh yea....oh yea....

Now 34 men lay dead or dyin
They drop life boats and began to row
No one knew what was about to go down
They started droppin bombs on running men

WE ALL THOUGHT ISRAEL WAS OUR FRIEND!!!

(Chorus)
Cover it up with your biggest blanket
You couldn't sink her so now we can see
Cover it up with your biggest blanket
You couldn't sink our Liberty

Cover it up....co...ver...it...up
You couldn't sink our Liberty
Cover it up...co..ver...it...up
You couldn't sink our liberty!

Jpass's picture

Shaping up...

"this is shaping up to be a great and FUN year for the truth, eh?"

omg that's an understatement of the year and it's only been about a week or so into it!

The timing is a little eeeeerrryyyy for me...I've been talking about online music collaboration for a week straight and working hard to get a set-up that is suitable for recording and swapping tracks with other musicians.

Jpass's picture

Truth Jams

Great songs!

I would definitely be down for some 911 Truth music collaboration.

After listening to the awesome songs on this thread I threw down this rough recording of a song about the USS Liberty that I'm working on.

Cover It Up - The 'don't wake up your girl while singing at 3am rough n' ready remix'

It's rough as you can tell by the double take on the third verse.

This site is free and pretty cool for people who collaborate musically online...

http://www.kompoze.com

I can do bass, guitar (lead or rhythm) harmonica, vocals. My roommate plays harp not me.

EDIT: sorry about that. Double anon post.

gretavo's picture

what is this crap?

just kidding... logging in's a bitch, i know!

Annoymouse's picture

wow, that was cool

great work, scrubby. and i agree, it's a ggod reflecting theme...

Jpass's picture

em7 rips it up

Maybe 'rips it up' isn't the best way to describe this song but man that is some good stuff.

Very introspective and optimistic.

Tahooey's picture
