Defense Authorization Act Includes US-Israel Missile Integration

Bush plans to veto defense authorization bill:

There's a lot of noise about Bush planning to veto the Defense Authorization Act of 2008, recently passed by Congress, primarily because of his interests in Iraq's concerns that the legislation could hinder redevelopment efforts by entangling the country's assets in court claims by victims of Saddam Hussein.

Although Bush has objected to some details in the bill, which authorizes major military programs, his aides said he does not seek to reopen those debates:

Therefore, one must assume that Bush does not seek to reopen items that received little debate, or any debate at all. I can find absolutely nothing in the mainstream press about the approval of a plan to integrate the U.S. and Israeli missile defense systems, which is reported to be included in the legislation:

Bill includes U.S.-Israel missile coordination

Congress is set to approve a plan to integrate the U.S. and Israeli missile defense systems.

The proposal, authored by U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), is part of the Defense Authorization Act passed late Wednesday by the U.S. House of Representatives and due to be considered by the Senate before Christmas break. Under the proposal, the secretary of defense must within six months present a plan to Congress a plan "to improve the coordination, interoperability, and integration of the U.S. National Ballistic Missile Defense System with Israel’s missile defense architecture," a statement from Kirk's office said.

Such a plan will help defend Israel against reported plans by Iran to build missiles that can reach Israel, Kirk said. "Israel will be the first and only country to fully integrate with the American missile defense architecture," the statement said. "It is a symbol of our shared values and a safer 21st century."

As you can see, CONgressman Kirk's congressional web page (link above) credits the source of this news article to be JTA. However, the credit is not a link to a JTA page. I did find this:

http://www.jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/breaking/105895.html

which includes text identical to that on CONgressman Kirk's web site.

JTA describes itself thusly:

"JTA is the definitive, trusted global source of breaking news, investigative reporting, in-depth analysis, opinion and features on current events and issues of interest to the Jewish people."

http://www.jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/special/about.html

Why is it that the definitive, trusted global sources of breaking news, investigative reporting, in-depth analysis, opinions and features on current events and issues of interest to the American people right here in the good ole USA have chosen to not report this?

Let your mind run wild but,

Remember the Liberty!

this feels like when we were kids

and we were forced to play with and/or be nice to some snotty little jerk because the grown ups said we had to. The snotty little jerk was usually disliked because he/she was obnoxious, cheated at games, broke things delibertaely, didn't share, etc. Forcing the issue like that simply led to more dislike and resentment of the annoying kid in question.

I feel like America is being told it has to be friends with a creepy little kid named Izzy...
