Ex-Italian President: Intel Agencies Know 9/11 An Inside Job

Man who set up Operation Gladio tells
Italy's largest newspaper attacks were run by CIA, Mossad

Former Italian President and the man who revealed
the existence of Operation Gladio Francesco Cossiga has gone public
on 9/11, telling Italy's most respected newspaper that the attacks
were run by the CIA and Mossad and that this was common knowledge
amongst global intelligence agencies.

Cossiga was elected President of the Italian Senate
in July 1983 before winning a landslide 1985 election to become President
of the country in 1985.

Cossiga gained respect from opposition parties as
one of a rare breed - an honest politician - and led the country for
seven years until April 1992.

Cossiga's tendency to be outspoken upset the Italian
political establishment and he was forced to resign after revealing
the existence of, and his part in setting up, Operation
Gladio
- a rogue intelligence network under NATO auspices that
carried out bombings across Europe in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Gladio's specialty was to carry out what they coined "false
flag operations," terror attacks that were blamed on their
domestic and geopolitical opposition.

Cossiga's revelations contributed to an Italian parliamentary
investigation of Gladio in 2000, during which evidence was unearthed
that the attacks were being overseen
by the U.S. intelligence apparatus
.

In March 2001, Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra
stated, in sworn testimony, "You had to attack civilians, the
people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed
from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force ...
the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security."

Cossiga's new revelations appeared
last week in Italy's oldest and most widely read newspaper, Corriere
della Sera.
Below appears a rough translation.

"[Bin Laden supposedly confessed] to the Qaeda
September [attack] to the two towers in New York [claiming to be]
the author of the attack of the 11, while all the [intelligence services]
of America and Europe ... now know well that the disastrous attack
has been planned and realized from the CIA American and the Mossad
with the aid of the Zionist world in order to put under accusation
the Arabic Countries and in order to induce the western powers to
take part ... in Iraq [and] Afghanistan."

Cossiga first expressed his doubts about 9/11 in
2001, and is quoted
in Webster Tarpley's book
as stating that "The mastermind
of the attack must have been a “sophisticated mind, provided
with ample means not only to recruit fanatic kamikazes, but also highly
specialized personnel. I add one thing: it could not be accomplished
without infiltrations in the radar and flight security personnel.”

Coming from a widely respected former head of state,
Cossiga's assertion that the 9/11 attacks were an inside job and that
this is common knowledge amongst global intelligence agencies is highly
unlikely to be mentioned by any establishment
media outlets, because like the hundreds of other sober ex-government,
military, air force professionals, allied to hundreds more professors
and intellectuals - he can't be sidelined as a crackpot conspiracy
theorist.

Genuine Italian POV on Cossiga Statement, and on Cossiga...

 Hmmm, tread with caution?

Dear [Gretavo],

oh, I think that Cossiga's comments were meant in earnest. He has been famous for his "esternazioni" and "picconate" starting from the last two years of his term as president of the Republic. These were often cause for embarrassment among the general public--not many people take him very seriously I am afraid, though it is sometimes hard to say. Some see him as a kind of court fool or jester, some as an "idiot savant", so you never know. I must ask my cousin about this one, since he is also always very opinionated about the US, the twin towers and Berlusconi.

Hope you have a great day!

This letter doesn't really

This letter doesn't really mean anything. What is needed to answer questions about what Cossiga was or was not really saying is first of all a comprehensive translation of the original article as it appeared in Italian, made by someone with experience in translating Italian into English. From this Anonymous Italian's comment it isn't even clear if they actually read the original Italian article, or whether they simply picked on it from Alex Jones. The Prison Planet piece contains several passages which are quoted out of context and to be able to decide whether that made a difference we would need a full translation of the original by someone who is practiced at preserving the sense in translation. Not every Italian who knows enough English to read Alex Jones is qualified. If people are really serious about this, the best thing to do is contact some 911-truth group in the area of the University of California, Berkeley. UCal, Berkeley, has an Italian Studies Department and likely has graduate students who would be interested in making some extra bucks. Such a person should not be preached to about 911 but should simply be contracted at an agreed pay-rate to provide a professional translation of the original Italian article.

prison planet is 63% BS

which is why I sent my anonymous Italian friend a link to the Corriere Della Sera article (i.e. the source).

If you want to pay a specific grad student in a specific department for a translation that may or may not capture the exact meaning then you are more than welcome to, and we will assign it the credibility due to an anonymous submission. I am more than satisfied with the reliability of my own source, and would hope that I have earned the right to have my judgement on such matters taken seriously.

For that matter I did myself study Italian in college and as a native Spanish speaker can hold my own when it comes to understanding a simple and short newspaper article.

here is the message I sent requesting commentary...

Ciao ******!

Wondering if you would be able to tell me if the comments attributed to Cossiga on the subject of 9/11 (see link above) were meant ironically/sarcastically or not...

Mille grazie for any insight you can provide!

While I'm not sufficiently

While I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable in the Italian language to give a proper translation of my own, I have noticed how some people have apparently altered the sense of Cossiga's words by giving half-quotes. That's something which people should be alert to and try to check carefully. Hopefully someone with a more professional knowledge of Italian will address the matter, but here are some things which I've noticed.

This site claims to actually provide a full translation of the original article from Corriere della Sera:

http://www.sott.net/articles/show/144872-Former-Italian-President-9-11-C...

On the other hand, at this link Christopher Bollyn provides a very selective partial translation which completely changes the meaning:

http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?read=114778

Notice how in the full article the lead-off sentence is:

"According to what I was told, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow the most powerful daily newspaper chain of our country will deliver an exceptional scoop, saying that the video (actually an audio file), in which Osama Bin Laden..."

In contrast, Bollyn jumps way out ahead and begins with the sentence:

"From circles around Palazzo Chigi, nerve centre of direction of Italian intelligence, it is noted that the non-authenticity of the video is testified from the fact that Osama bin Laden..."

When I read the full translation the impression is that Cossiga is simply laughing at "Oh, this is what the newspaper is going to say, and the left goes along with that story, har-dee-har-har, ha, ha, ha..."

When I read the selected sentences given by Bollyn the impression is rather that real Italian intelligence agencies have determined that the CIA and Mossad were behind 911. That is clearly not the way the full article, with statements placed in context, sounds, at least not in the available translations. If people really wish to take this seriously without being led around by the nose the thing to do is find a college or univeristy with a good Italian studies department and contract a graduate student to give the best translation of the original article into English. Be prepared to pay at least 20 dollars per hour for the job. It might be worth doing, but my impression from the translation given at Signs of the Times is that this is really just a storm in a tea cup.
