Anonymous commenting. Bring it back?

No, I like it just the way it is. If you're too lazy to register, I don't care what you have to say.

sigh...

Yeah I've thought about doing that, but do I really want Col. Jenny and Family Guy leaving turds in the queue that I'll have to clean up? I mean, we could try it for a while and see what happens, how about that? But they HAVE to be moderated, because otherwise people post really nasty shit, including thinly veiled threats...

I voted "no" and apparently...

I was the only one to do so.. Even though, on my site, I don't restrict comments really at all, unless they are racist in nature or call for violence of some kind. But just recently, just yesterday in fact, someone scanned through all my Palestinian Rights articles, then since I guess they didn' find what they were looking for, someone else came along and started leaving racist and anti-Semitic remarks... all of a sudden... what a coincidence... So to make a long story short, I banned the guy, and removed the offensive comments, but I have to wonder these days, with Lieberman still sitting on HR 1955 and S 1959, if sites like ours that deal with a truer version of the Truth movement may want to keep a tighter reign on comments. Just a thought.

ok, pop by backular demand

Anonymous comments will again be allowed but will be moderated, i.e. have to be approved in order to be published. Some users here have "hall monitor" privileges which means that they have the power to view the comment queue and publish appropriate content. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE err on the side of caution when deciding whether to approve a comment. I would much rather limit the approval of comments to myself but I can only grant permission to simply VIEW the comment queue together with the permission to approve, and it's important to me that if there are to be anonymous comments that trusted users here should be able to see what is getting approved and what is not in the interest of transparency.

Mainly I am concerned about people trying to post threats, racist junk, or referring to people by their real names if they do not make a habit of going by their real names (there are plenty of legitimate reasons to prefer to remain pseudonymous!) Again, if you have the merest suspicion that gReT might not want his mom reading something posted anonymously, don't approve it! Not that gReT's mom ever reads anything here--it's just my way of saying that there are plenty of jerks out there who would love to make trouble for us!

Meh... I think it's a bad idea.

I'd be in favor of "streamlining" the registration process but the annoymice this place attracts are especially vicious (and often disease-carrying). Oh well, let's give it a whirl.

well, it will be instructive...

and we can always stop it like we did before...

So, how is the annoymouse experiment going?

Are the amount of turds that have to be cleaned out of the que at a manageable level?
