Critics Demand Resignation of U.N. Official Who Wants Probe of 9/11 'Inside Job' Theories
Thursday , June 19, 2008
By Joseph Abrams
Critics are calling for the resignation of a U.N. official who publicly supports investigating theories that the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were an "inside job."
Richard Falk, the special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, investigates alleged Israeli violations of human rights law for the U.N.’s Human Rights Council.
But the former Princeton professor would also like to investigate whether “some sort of controlled explosion from within†destroyed the Twin Towers, he told FOXNews.com.
“I do think there are questions that haven’t been answered, questions about the way the buildings collapsed and the failure to heed a variety of signals that there was danger coming,†Falk said.
“I think [his beliefs are] fruitcake city, but among many delegations to the U.N. it’s probably the conventional wisdom,†said John Bolton, a former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. known for his straight talk on U.N. hypocrisy.
But Hillel Neuer, executive director of U.N. Watch, a non-governmental organization that monitors the U.N., wants Falk removed from his job.
“He should resign,†said Neuer, who raised concerns about Falk's ability to be an objective observer. Neuer has also criticized Falk for being biased against Israel.
“If he were a principled person he would recognize the fact that he has very extreme views,†Neuer said.
In 2004, Falk wrote the forward to “The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11,†a book written by David Ray Griffin, a Sept. 11 conspiracy theorist.
Griffin’s book argues that the Twin Towers may have been brought down by a “controlled demolition†— not by two airliners hijacked by Al Qaeda operatives — and that the Pentagon may not have been hit by a plane at all.
Griffin “doesn’t take a so-called conspiracy view and he raises questions that haven’t been answered,†Falk told FOXNews.com. “I think [the book] deserved to be published and I have no regrets about that.â€
Falk said that while he supports alternative theories behind the World Trade Center attack, he doesn't claim the U.S. government was responsible.
“I’m an agnostic on the issue,†he said.
But Bolton is hardly agnostic on the issue of Falk's views.
“It’s just an example of the inmates running the asylum,†Bolton said. “It’s a particularly graphic example for Americans, but this is not an aberration — this is, unfortunately, typical of much of what goes on" at the U.N.
A spokesman for the office of Louise Arbour, the U.N. high commissioner for human rights, declined to comment on Falk.
“As a matter of practice, we do not offer commentaries on individual special rapporteurs,†wrote spokesman Rupert Colville in an e-mail to FOXNews.com. “There are some 27 of them in all, and if we started making character judgments on one or two of them, it would never stop. They are mandated to do their work by the Human Rights Council.â€
But Falk’s support for Sept. 11 conspiracy theories isn’t the only thing that has critics up in arms.
In an online article for the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research last year, Falk — prior to his appointment as an unbiased human rights investigator — compared Israeli actions in Gaza to the Nazi treatment of Jews. This may have led to his appointment as the rapporteur for the Palestinian territories, Bolton said.
“He was picked for a reason, and the reason is not to have an objective assessment — the objective is to find more ammunition to go after Israel,†Bolton said.
Neuer said Falk is not the only special rapporteur to bring a bias to the job. “You have people who are, I would say, a wolf in sheep’s clothing who are implementing the agenda of dictatorships,†he said.
“It’s tragic because there are human rights victims around the world who could greatly benefit from a champion, including in the Middle East. ...
“Many of the rapporteurs do good work, do important work, report on how countries are respecting or not respecting laws around the world,†Neuer said.
Falk maintained he was an appropriate choice for the job. “I think I’m an informed observer and I’m unbiased in the sense that I have always done the best to tell the truth as I see it,†he said.
Despite his calls for Falk’s resignation, Neuer did not expect him to be censured or removed.
“I don’t think there’s going to be any move in the council to do anything about his appointment,†he said.
Asked whether he’d be surprised if further investigations revealed the U.S. government’s role in Sept. 11, Neuer told FOXNews.com, “Yes, I’d be surprised — not shocked but surprised.â€
He then reconsidered, and said: “No, I’d be shocked.â€

no more hiding behind pseudonyms!
Apparently some anonymous commenters want it to be known that they believe they know Real Truther's real true identity. To save them the trouble I have decided (that is, Real Truther has) to drop the pretense to pseudonymity and absolutely end the use of sock puppets. Henceforth I, Real Truther, will be known by my real name--Gazpacho Batata. Yes, it is a spanish name, and no, you can't call me Pacho for short. Gazpacho or Dr. Batata will do just fine.
your courage is admirable, Dr. Batata
I assume you talked this over with gretavo before making the decision?
The best part
Thanks for posting this article.
I found that the best part was a quote in it by John Bolton himself, which tells a lot. A whole lot:
“I think 'fruitcake city', but among many delegations to the U.N. it’s
probably the conventional wisdom,†said John Bolton, a former U.S.
ambassador to the U.N.
Bolton is complaining that the ideas and thrust of the 9/11 Truth is
"the conventional wisdom" among the many delegations at the United
Nations. He is probably right. A very large number of the diplomats and
delegates who handle Foreign Affairs for their countries are very
educated about the ways and methods of the global and US Empire, and
especially sensitive to the "special role" of the State of Israel to
the whole global Imperium's "deep state" machinery.
Most of those diplomats and delegates usually do not say a word in
public, but often spill out entire volumes after they retire. Most
often they are true patriots who feel that the special knowledge they
acquire during their years in Foreign Service belongs to the people, so
they share it eventually one way or another.
But our problem is in the present time, and we need more politicians,
more Cabinet Ministers, more Ambassadors and Heads of State to speak
out on 9/11. Bolton is right to be complaining; he knows that most of
the diplomats in and around the United Nations know the Truth, or parts
of the Truth, and that they talk about it in private a whole lot.
To start with, every single one of the diplomats from the countries
which had issued warnings to the US about September 11 (regardless of
whether their perception of it at the time was that the mythical beast
Al Qaeda was supposedly "planning it", and regardless of how those
warnings were eventually presented in the media), all those diplomats
know now that high up in the echelons of the US Government, some
factions wanted the events to take place and "allowed" things to go
forth despite warnings.
Bolton and the other US politicians and functionaries who meet up with
these foreign diplomats - for the first time ever in history - are
being seen by their foreign counterparts not just as butchers of the
world (which how they have always been known), but also now as butchers of their own people. It's a shame and a disgrace that have never in the past fallen so squarely on the shoulders of these creepozoids.
Certainly some of those in power "let it happen" while some others
in power "made it happen". Both factions co-operated, knowingly or
unknowingly, in a tremendous Inside Job.
Everywhere that George Bush and his entourage go now, around the world,
they encounter other diplomats, politicians, State functionaries who know a little or a lot about that Inside Job from the research, findings, the claims, demands and goals of the Truth movement.
It's not a small victory. We've succeeded in creating a lot of allies on the world scene.
Even though the bunch is heterogenous, a mixed bag of varying and perhaps
partially conficting interests, they have on the whole, succeeded in
making the "scene" where global relations, contacts and diplomatic interactions
take place into a very uncomfortable place for the criminals and their
representatives.

well put, Petros
The one angle I would add is that I think Bolton's words are similar to Cossiga's (the Italian former intel guy responsible for Gladio who said, sarcastically it must be stressed that "everyone knows 9/11 was done by the CIA and Mossad") He is basically acknowledging that yes, there are those for whom that is gospel or conventional wisdom but doing so to imply that they are, in Bolton's words, fruitcakes. This is basically part of the neocon talking points--the UN is irelevant and full of crazy America and Israel haters. This is what I find funny about Alex Jones' villification of the UN as the NWO's proto-world government--clearly the goal of many people is to discredit the UN, and while they no doubt deserve some criticism, one has to wonder what is really going on. My guess is that there are those like the neocons who would love to control the UN and therefore use it as Alex Jones claims to fear it IS being used. On the other hand Alex Jones' critiques of the UN are often so silly sounding that one wonders if his role is not to perfidiously harm the cause of UN reform through faulty arguments, thereby neutralizing the UN's genuine opponents and leaving the door open for the neocons to gradually transform it into a vehicle for their agenda (which in the end serves the global financial elite who run the world bank and IMF rackets to seize control of countries by bankrupting governments once they accept outsourcing of their monetary policy (as the US did with the Federal Reserve Act.)
outsourcing monetary policy
has Japan now recently outsourced its monetary policy? i seem to recall a connection to earthquakes...HAARP, etc.
