Harvard Truthing Update

Well well. Not only is today an incredibly beautiful day here in Cambridge, but the truth gods seem to be smiling on RT. During my lunch hour I was mobbed by two separate school groups (I'd say around 7th or 8th graders) who all wanted info cards. Even the adult chaperones in both cases grabbed them (perhaps to see what their kids were about to soak up with their spongy young gray matter!) To one kid I gave a 9/11 Mysteries DVD, hopefully it will make the rounds at school...

Another guy came up to me and cut to the chase. He's down with what I'm doing, buit his roommate is nervous about everything and he's concerned for him. Sounded to me like the natural allergic reaction of a sensitive soul to the Alex Jones treatment, so I gave the guy a copy of 9/11 Mysteries for his roommate, recommending especially the "inspirational" part at the end that is a good antidote to feelings of "AJ-lienation". No matter what we may end up thinking about Sofia, that last part of the first version of 9/11M is something i will never forget.

Then I spoke with a young harvard fellow and his friend. He was a skeptic--had seen Loose Change he said, and read rebuttals online. He was satisfied that the matter was thus settled (his friend seemed to have no opinion.) I parried every one of his objections basically pointed out how much more I knew about the basics than he, and asking him if it was wise to form an opinion about something without considering all the evidence. He may not have been convinced I was right, but he admitted I made good points about how one should evaluate contradictory claims. His friend agreed, and was happy to take some cards to read.

On my return to work I ran into a faculty member with whom I had chatted briefly a few times about the subject. He was looking over one of the cards, and I offered him a DVD.

Every day, in every way, it's getting better and better.

The truth is marching on.

but of course...

interesting anecdote... my first foray into Beatledom was after seeing a video for Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on VH1 (around the same time Bush senior was debating Mike Dukakis, so mid 1988 and at age 13 I was rooting for Poppy, which I think scared my parents...) Anyway told my friend at school how much I liked it and he (a fellow foreign service brat whose dad had worked in Iran) lent me an Iranian cassette tape that had LSD and a bunch of other Beatles songs on it, which I played incessantly on my GE clock radio/cassette player until the day it sucked up the tape forcing me to have to surgically pull it out, fearing that I had destroyed this unique gem belonging to my friend's father. I succeeded, returned the tape and began my quest of acquiring beatles tapes from the commissary and the ubiquitous mail order catalogs that made the rounds in the expatriate community. The weirdest thing was my friend's name was Sean, his dad's name was John, and his mom was Japanese.

So it goes...

hey foreign service brat

similar upbringing in distant lands...born in BA (older bro and sis fluent in Spanish, me just a smattering) Beirut, Barcelona, Casablanca...

dad traveled all over the world, not for USGov but for Chiclets, of all things!

cool story about the tape, beatles/friend coincidence and all.

i do i think my matriotism/patriotism, and my respect and love for peoples of other countries/faiths, etc,  was enriched from these experiences. it has taken on different hues over the years, of course.

did you meet "ugly americans"?..."ignorant americans" more like it. we sure did...
