Ignorance and Intolerance - Not Just For Straight People Anymore!

gretavo's picture

Here is the result of some recent trolling for awareness on a locally trafficked GBLT site (as a response to a scaremongering post about hate groups in Massachusetts.) You might think that the GBLT community is a bastion of open mindedness. It may well be in many ways, but sadly not when it comes to defending the victims of their own ignorance and apathy. Let this be a warning to those who would hold up a mirror before a similarly self-obsessed group of individuals--intolerance is equal opportunity these days--you've come a long way, baby, indeed...

Southern Poverty Law Center's Map of Extremists in MA

Hm, look at who is on the Southern Poverty Law Center's map of extremists in Massachusetts... our favourite fan, Mass Resistance!

the final comment is so interesting

For a couple of reasons--I'm tempted (not with too much hope of course) to think that Icarus may be a closet truther and by leaving the thread up as a testament to my horribleness is actually doing quite the service to us. At the same time, the "rationality in the face of illogic" quip is 24 Karat irony, maybe even molten irony!

Humanity in all its diversity will continue to enthrall and at the same time torment me--I realize we're living on the cusp of a monumental paradigm shift, riding, as it were a tsunami of social upheaval, but even so--does the ride always have to be this bumpy? or am I just needlessly kvetching? it does beat exchanging ordinance in the absence of running water and electricity, right?

Please someone just promise me that when the hate police take me away you'll scrape up enough lovebail to spring me, or at the very least send me a cake with a file or saw inside...

Count on it

I'll unleash PR hell if anyone here vanishes...

And I really gotta say that it'd be a pleasure to punch miss Moody Teen Tante in the face. With a sledgehammer. What a self-righteous, retarded sack of shit...and oh, btw, this is my cell phone -- yea, I'm that important!

Fortunately, it seems Karma's a force not to be messed with -- wonder what's in store for her.

no it was more like...

"this is my cell phone, hello"

implying somehow that the reader should have known that she was typing from her cell phone. and she's the "linguistic anthropologist", hello?

it's funny because I've recently had real life conversations with a few "regular guys", who these privileged queer theorists would no doubt scorn as not sensitive enough to the special needs of the trans community, etc. Who are amazingly well informed with regard to our resource wars, government corruption, the false left/right divide, the whole shebang. On the other hand we have these so-called progressives who are in fact some of the most closed-minded people on any issue that does not satisfy their genderdentity political agenda. The cry about inclusion and acceptance to the point where they reject and exclude pretty much anyone who doesn't conform to their exact worldview. Let me say this--common sense populism is going to bury special interest identity politics. That's the subject of an entire dissertation but anyway, I put out the thesis in case anyone wants to debate... cass maybe? :)

So true

ironic that "progressives" and "intellectuals" -- and speaking of flocks, not individuals -- will be the last to eventually acknowledge what's being played here...

Makes me wonder what mechanism is to blame for their incredible sycophancy.

it's almost like... a conspiracy!

on the part of the elites to create subcultures that distrust and despise each other. it's almost like groups are created that advocate for really wonderful sounding things but at the same time conceal an agenda unknown to their followers. why, one might even say that the result is "ostensible diversity masking actual uniformity". but of course all this would presuppose that someone somewhere has been conspiring to make it so, and as we all know, there would be too many people involved, someone would have exposed the conspiracy long ago, and no one (except for islamofascists) is quite so clever as to dream up such a dastardly scheme in the first place!

but seriously

the problem lies in the fact that this particular GBLT site (Quenchzine.blogspot.com) is very much cross-fertilized by individuals who also represent the fake antiwar groups at Harvard. They have most definitely achieved their actual uniformity (on issues that matter most) while presenting a front of ostensible diversity (on issues that matter, just not quite as much). The use of pseudonyms makes it pretty easy to do this, of course.

In the corporate world, we have the phenomenon of interlocking directorates, that is to say boards of directors that have overlapping membership, even among companies believed by the public to be fierce competitors. At Harvard one can see the same kind of thing on a smaller scale.

Here are some of the groups with overlapping membership:

Quenchzine (GBLT issues)
HAWC (Harvard Antiwar Coalition) - replaced HIPJ (Harvard Initiative for Peace and Justice)
AJME (Association for Justice in the Middle East)
The Harvard Crimson (ultra Zionist student newspaper)
The Harvard Lampoon (humor magazine that pretends to feud with the Crimson newspaper)
HPJA (Harvard Progressive Jewish Alliance)
Harvard Hillel
The New York Times (favorite post harvard employer)

Now the last one of course isn't at Harvard--but the stories I could tell! In any case, the NYT, all the big consulting frims (BCG, McKinsey, Accenture, etc.) and investment banks (JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, etc.) and even Hollywoodâ„¢ scoop up all these freshly indoctrinated kids once they leave the cocoon for what the kids mistakenly term "the real world".

My lists are of course incomplete, but the idea is to establish the dynamics at play, that of course you'll rarely see talked about openly or honestly...
