we were being attacked!
I looked up the access stats and 5 of the top 6 hit counts were from IP in the 217.212.224.XXX range... it's some Dutch search engine company!

this time it looks like it was either a google bot or just some prick at google inc.
now that we've let Chris inside the gate I think the banning stick is going to have to come out again until this crap dies down! thanks for all the advice Tahooey, and to everyone for their patience when these things happen!

are u able to get under the hood and see if there's a difference in the processor load at the times it's happening vs when its not?
is the mysql server on the same server as the site is hosted? if not, maybe a network issue between them...?

I think they are different servers, but it seems to be a mysql issue since it doesn't happen to the regular site, just to the blog...
well it's something in the
well it's something in the drupal code that isn't being handled correctly - ideally their code would spit out an intelligent error instead of causing an ISE, but at this point, who knows if it's a failed mysql connect or something else. just the sporadic-ness of it makes me think it's not a config issue (unless like a memory limit needs to be upped somewhere inside drupal).
i started installing drupal a couple weeks back - i want to mess around with it some more, but so many things to do - and i end up reading blogs half the day anyway!! ;)

i met ron paul today
and asked him about the possibility of the mossad's involvement with the 9/11 attacks. of course i prefaced it with chertoff, urban moving systems, detainees released w/o charges, explosives residue, filming and celebrating. i'll let you know the whole deal tomorrow. nothing too exciting and no, it wasn't filmed by me, but there had to be at least a dozen cameras pointing at the scene. good night and go cubs!

Although I tend to think the problem is something "under the hood" which you might not even have access to, depending on your hosting arrangement.
I wish I had a server I could fully dedicate to drupal, we could set up a mirror of your site and see if it runs any better or worse... but that's going to take some shuffling (or $) and first we need to break through a solid logjam of procrastination over here.
