Subject: Yes! to supporting Wikileaks, but....
Date: Mon, 06 Dec 2010
From: Petros Evdokas
To: IMC Comunications

I'd like to extend my thanks to whoever it was among us who took the
initiative to create an indymedia mirror to wikileaks, here:
http://wikileaks.indymedia.org/

The wikileaks team deserves all the support it can get, in these crazy
times. The global features editorial group is preparing to publish an
article in support of wikileaks, as well, which is another good step.

But:
taking the step to create an imc mirror to wikileaks involves all us,
especially given the possibility that our entire indymedia network might
be knocked off the internet in retaliation by the imperialist powers who
want to silence wikileaks. It's a worthy risk to take, and I support it.
ww
But there was no discussion about it anywhere on our global lists.
Neither imc-communication nor imc-process have a single email about this
proposal. We should have been asked for input so that it could be a
democratic decision with transparency

The motives are great and the cause is worthwhile, but this decision
by-passed even the most rudimentary of our principles of unity. Even if
the practicalities of it demanded some secrecy (as they should, given
the sensitive nature of the issue) we could have still discussed
together it a little and then empower a group of our colleagues to take
whatever steps needed to actualize the democratic decision. But as it
stands now, someone took a decision for all of us, and all of indymedia
is involved in it.

Again, I applaud the step, and if it had been proposed to any of our
bodies I would have supported it with fervor. But I'm dissapointed with
the lack of transparency.

My honest thanks again to whoever it was.

Don't use Paypal to make donation

As many of you know, Paypal has taken an official stand against Wikileaks. I for one will never use Paypal again. I hope you feel the same way.
