here's what it means

that americans are gullible idiots, by and large. not their fault though. public schools, controlled media, reality shows, sports, celebrities, fast food, etc... these are the results. interesting though.

I mean obviously some are but generally Americans are as smart as anyone else. They are naïve though, and in this case were cruelly tricked in such a psychologically shocking way that they can be given the benefit of the doubt. Sure there are a bunch of people who really are dense but most people are perfectly capable of understanding what is going on--the issue is one of psychology.
